WHO on gaming disorder

The World Health Organization, is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. They published some details about their view on gaming disorder in their website, where some questions related to it have been answered. According to them gaming disorder is

"a pattern of gaming behavior (“digital-gaming” or “video-gaming”) characterized by impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences" ("Gaming disorder", 2018).

It is interesting that they have included it in the International Classification of Diseases, which means that it has become a serious treat and the treatments to it have similar approaches across the world. This mean that the cure and way to get out from gaming disorder is the same and could perhaps vary in small details from case to case.

"Studies suggest that gaming disorder affects only a small proportion of people who engage in digital- or video-gaming activities" ("Gaming disorder", 2018).

But this still does not eclude the fact that people should be aware of this risk related to gaming and should eventually know the measures to follow in order to prevent it.
